Why is it that with the glut of ships laid up around the world all looking for charters. The cost of chartering these vesels is at an all time low. Then why is the cost of transporting crude oil anf other fuels not dropped at the fuel pumps. Somebody is making a killing!, our NZ dollar is at an all time high against the US dollar and the pound, yet they have just put the price of fuel up. WHY???

But we have to put this in perspective. How many spare tankers are there out there?
But les if it is greed then we are all guilty. Most of us have funds in super or pension funds, here in Oz as well as U.K. N.Z. U.S.A. and others. Where are those fiunds placed? Mainly into blue chip companies via the stock market. Oil companies like so many others need to pay a dividend to those funds, and it is those dividends that help to grow your money.

I fully understand what you are on about but it does not explain, why supermarket giant Woolworths outlets have different prices from one service station to the other and this is replicated by others as well. So it has still got to be put down to GREED. I am talking about outlets in close proximity to each other as well. Lets face it are being ripped of at the bowser.

But are we Les, in the Western world only Canad and U.S. have fuel cheaper than ours.
Here in Oz tax on a litre is 38cents plus G.S.T. making a total of about about 39% on fuel at $1.25 a litre.
Compare this tax with tax in U.K. 60% France & Germany 65% Greece 55% and Spain 50%.
I agree that prices are very unstable in different areas, not sure how it works in N.S.W. but here in Vic the cycle begins Wednesday evening with prices going up and a staedy decline to the bottom of the cycle on Wednesday afternoon. Even with that in place there are still people who buy at the top of the cycle.

You are lucky with your fuel prices all the major companies ,Shell BP MObil charge the same price, if one goes up by a few cents then the others follow suit, so the cost is the same in each gas station and they say it is not rigged  They are so fast in putting up the price but HO so slow in bringing it down again. There was talk of a revolt , which went like this, everybody was to boycott a company for a few days say Shell ,then onto another company . If we could all do that, that might make them tow the line, as they would lose millions in lost sales. .

Hi Taffy, that was suggested here at one time but never got off the ground. But we must ask the question as to why the price of crude fluctuaes so much, and why did it get to almot $200 a barrel at one time? New York oilr brokers controkl the price bsedon what they think te market can stand. They is as far as I can see very little logic to it all. Bu the fact remains that at the end of the day the biggest winners are not the oil companies but he goernments who collect the taxes on fule.
