Hi there Bob. Ill call you Bob if thats all right?Sorry that I missed you at the Vindi. Cant remember a thing, names, faces, happenings nothing except how cold it was,but it wasnt to bad at night as I started seeing the daughter of the Berkley Arms,so had somewhere to hide from the cold evenings.I realy enjoyed my only trip on the Ajana.Did you know that she was lost somewhere of the South American coast.I have a couple of photo's of her if you would like copies please let me know.

Hi Tony. The first of your ships, the "Empire Hallidale",dont rembember that name, was she a "trooper" like the Empire Orwell was.The "Orwell" did six trips on her.Not a new ship(ex German),but one of the happiest ships I was on,had great times on a great run calling in all the "Military"postings :- Gib,Aden,Colombo,Singapore,Hong Kong,Pusan and Kure in Japan, and and the same on the way back.Good old days.Nice to hear from you, if you get the chance, please stay in touch.

Good question, Dave, about the Empire Hallidale. The ex-German ships taken up as troopers, as far as I know, were named after rivers. So, is Hallidale a river? I sailed on Empire Ken, which was managed by Royal Mail Lines out of Southampton, and yarns told off-watch often included names such as your Alcantara. Unfortunately, my short MN "career" did not include visiting East Coast South America.
