Here in Oz, unlike U.K. we are only celebrating our second Merchant Navy day, it was only declared last year after quite a fight to get recognition. Last year I managed to get a small letter in the Melbourne daily paper to inform the public about it.
This year I managed to get to do an editorial on the local radio. Due to unforseen circumstances by the radio station I had to do it a week early. From comments made it would appear there has been quite a bit of interest in it as many have commenetd that they had no idea what important part the M.N. played during the war.
I have had an article published in the local paper and have contacted the major talk back radio station in an effort to get a mention on Thursday morning of the day. There will be a service here in the seamens Mission in Melbourne and I hope that the radio station will announce that fact.
Mate of mine in sydney has a Red Duster flying outside his house and has a surprise waiting for many on Thursday.
