This is quite an old post that I somehow missed and Reg I also fail to understand the significance of the time of death?
I recall a time on the ED ship Apapa we were tied in Apapa and it was knock-off time for the dockers, they all started racing up from the lower hold and one of them, in a hurry to get home, released his grip on the top rung of the hold ladder and attempted to grab the top of the hatch combing but he missed and fell to his death. A notice went round to the crew that shore leave was cancelled for all because some members of the docking gang were blaming the white skins for his death; I have no idea how that came about but word had it that one of the dockers was a shaman and he had determined that white-mans magic had caused the unfortunate man to fall. Obviously it was a terrible accident and who knows the wretched man almost certainly had a family to look after, no one on the ship would have wanted this to happen but ignorance guides these poor people, even today.
