While enjoying a few cans on balmy tropical evening on the legendery no 5 hatch the cry of " sing sing or show your ring " would quite often be heard, ( thats if you were on a ship were you were allowed enough to get into that state ) the most popular song which was attempted by some budding on board pop star was to my recollection "Your cheating heart " which was simple enough for all to join in," does any one else have any favourites," after a few renditions the whistle would go for the stand by man who returned from the bridge with the old mans message, -- cut that f-----g racket out and get below,-- which would result in the curtain coming down on the evening's enertainment

A top version Gerry, it was Frankie Laine who really brought the song over to the popular genre, it was a big hit for him but everything he did was a hit. :D

Yes lads two fine renditions of "Cheating Heart," really sets the memories flowing, another one of my favourites was the 1959 hit by Connie Francis, "Lipstick on your collar", this was the number one song in the charts during my incarceration at the Vindi and was played relentlessly on the juke box in the little dock side cafe, then while marching back to camp for our anti w--k, we used to all try to sing it in unison to the disgust of the local populace at Sharpness. I believe that fame and fortune did not bring hapiness to Connie Francis as she had alcahol and drug problems and I believe she was also a victim of rape.

Thanks for that Tony, it's so sad that such a talented young girl in the style of her era had such a traumatic time of it, it makes a person like myself realise how lucky I am having gone through lfe and still doing it with good health and happiness on limited resources compared to the likes of Connie Francis.
