Tony I know that there is bugger all you can do about this add but thought that if by some chance there was then I will explain my gripe. The congratulations add that jumps all over the place telling me that I have won something. I usually manage to scroll the page so that I can get rid of it but sometimes I have to not only have it jumping around but it is also doing it under the post and I can tell you that it plays bloody havoc with the eye balls. Are any others having the same affect? I know that we have to put up with the adds as that is the way the site generates income to keep going so is it possible to let them know that it is like having a strobe light in front of you. Thanks for reading my whinge and I do not lay any blame ot your feet.

hi les!
i logged out to see if i get the same add and didn't. it's possible that you may have adware and spyware in your pc. click on the link in my signature to take you to Rik's.
at the moment the the site is undergoing some updates so access may be temporarily broken. in the meantime, run a scan with your anti virus, then go HERE and download the free version of malwarebytes delete/fix/quarantine whatever it finds. then go HERE and download Hijackthis. once downloaded, change the change the name of hijackthis .exe to old crusty.exe or anaylser.exe with no other programmes running, run hijackthis and save the log it will produce.
then post the log
if you have any questions or problems, please feel free to ask ;)

post the hijackthis log here in tis forum

Hi Les, I don't get the add you've mentioned and I agree 100% with Tom it's probably spyware and Rik's site is the way to fix it.
I am looking into buying Domain name from FreeForums, i.e. a dot.com domain but I don't think that will alter spyware.

Les. Just to let you know you are not alone in being entertained by that jiggling
ad. Mine shows up in two "bars" sort of thing, telling me Congratulations, as the
total participants now numbers 999,999 and all I have to do is click and become
the one millionth and big winner. Is this too good to be true?

a tip for anyone that is unaware of the symptoms of adware. adware will often give you popup adds on on your screen. in addition it will cause your computer to run much slower than usual, as it takes up memory and cpu capacity.

try to keep the running processes as low as possible 39 to 49 for xp and 50 to to 60 for vista. these are estimates.
stop all unecessay programmes such as p2p share, windows live, torrent sites, chat programmes, printers etc. then look to see what else you don't need running in the backround, eg some programme updaters.

i seen your hijackthis log too, lets know how you get on les

I am still getting my head together in what to do as it is a lot to take on board. I think I will end up going back to basics and reformatting the whole system and re install windows. I have already done that on my main computer and at the moment have resolved to only use this one for interacting with others and the main one for banking and so forth. As I am about to embark on doing our own finances for income I think that would be the wisest move for me. In other words this is my fun machine and the other one is my working one. I will keep both anti virus programs working on it as well that is the AVG and Comodo as well as the Comodo firewall with Spybot for spyware. So if I do get zapped then hopefully I will be able to fix it. This computer did get done a while back if any one recalls and I purchased the other one and ended up getting another hard drive for this as the other one got fried by the virus. Thanking you for all your assistance and I have printed out those instructions to remove virus and malware so as I said I need to get the old nogging around it all.

hi les.
i understand that you have avg antivirus and comodo antivirus running together. it is not advised to have more than on running on any single machine and the same for firewalls.as your firewall is comodo make sure that windows firewall is switched off and uninstall avg or stop all of it's services. once you have done this you may well see a marked improvement in the speed of your machine.

because of the many conflicts between av programmes, they certainly should not be run together in realtime cover. if you wish to keep both av's, stop one and all of it's services and only use it after stopping your default av.

if there is anything, that you aren't sure about in the cleaning instructions please ask, it's no bother

Thank you Tom for that and I do only have one firewall running Comodo as I made sure that I disabled the Windows one. I did ask about running two av's a while back and I was under the impression that as I had a dual processor that all would be okay. I think I might go back to just the one av as I have thought about there being a conflict between them. That computer is purring along now that I have re installed everything but still have not found out what drivers have not installed and as everything is working that I want to work I am not that worried about it. It happened before and I reinstalled it all again and all drivers installed that time. Think it is just a matter of an old XP on a new machine that is the problem.
